DC Studios' Superman is teasing their own version of Oreos (and Martian Manhunter's favorite snack)

Superman isn't just saving the world in James Gunn's new DC Studios reboot - he's saving a piece of DC comic book lore, too

When it comes to world building, James Gunn is leaving little to chance for DC Studios’ Superman movie — and he’s ready to leave some Easter Eggs for longtime DC fans to enjoy upon repeated viewing, too.

But in this case, the Easter Eggs are cookies.

From the new Superman trailer, for example, none other than Justice League International co-creator Kevin Maguire has shared that the villain in the suit of armor is seemingly attacking “a marketing meeting for Chocos, Martian Manhunter's favorite cookie.” He's right: if you look at the left of the room being attacked at the 1:07 mark in the trailer, you can see the Chocos logo on the screen everyone is looking at; as the rest of the room gets illuminated by the force beam, the right of the room has marketing ideas for the cookies.

For those unfamiliar with the '80s JLI comic, the Martian Manhunter’s cookie addiction was, as unlikely as it sounds, a recurring plot thread. (In those less brand-conscious days, however, he was originally into the real-world Oreos; 'Chocos' were introduced as an alternative brand later, likely in response to the fact that Oreos are a trademarked name.)

That’s not all, though; take a look at the plaza Superman crashes into at the 1:13 mark — and, in particular, the far right of the shot, with the yellow and blue umbrella visible. That’s clearly the umbrella (and location) from these leaked set photos from almost a year ago, and won’t you look at that? It’s a Chocos stand!

Well, a Chocos shake stand, to be precise — but now we know what snack is all the rage in Metropolis… and we’re curious whether or not the Martian Manhunter himself is going to make an unannounced cameo in the movie to pick some up himself. After all, Superman is already going to feature his JLI teammate Guy Gardner, as well as his JLI boss Maxwell Lord… is a big screen Justice League International being built in front of our very eyes...?

Superman arrives in theaters July 11.
