The big differences between making movies & making TV series, according to Superman & Rookie co-star Nathan Fillion

Nathan Fillion is set to reprise his role as Guy Gardner in Peacemaker season 2, so he's got a good idea of the difference between making a movie and making a TV show.

Not many actors have played the same role in a TV show and in a movie, but even fewer have done that twice. Nathan Fillion first played Captain Mal in Firefly before flying into cinemas in Serenity. Now, he’s taking his Superman role of Green Lantern Guy Gardner to the small screen in Peacemaker season two this summer. From his point of view, there isn’t much difference between making a TV show and a movie, the actor says, but it all comes down to details.

“It feels exactly the same because it’s mostly the same people and there’s really no change in my job with the scope of the project with the exception of the bigger the movie, the longer it takes to film," Fillion said during a podcast appearance.

However, the big screen does make a difference for moviemakers because there is so much more space to fill. The sheer size of a movie screen compared to a TV screen means that you have to pay attention to every detail.

“When a screen is a television screen, they can kind of get away with futzing some details in the back. But when a screen is massive, they can’t get away with anything. You have to be exciting in everything you put into that lens.”

Nathan Fillion’s transition from TV star to movie star and back again has given him a unique perspective on how both mediums function it all comes down to the details.
