Spooky season is nearly here, and for all who celebrate, it's a magical time of year because it's built for horror/spooky movie and TV marathons. That said, there's nothing scarier than suddenly losing your internet connection (okay, maybe I'm being hyperbolic), which is why physical media like Blu-rays can come in handy for all of your festivities. With a physical media collection of my own, I've rounded up the best Steelbooks and Blu-rays for the Halloween season. Prepare to feast your eyes upon the very best.

1. HALLOWEEN - Collector's Edition [4K UHD]

 

Why it's a great gift: Spooky season wouldn't be complete without at least one watch of John Carpenter's classic film, Halloween. Why it's a great gift: If you're a fan of Brian De Palma's Carrie film from 1976, look no further than this gorgeous Steelbook edition of the film. The Steelbook is composed of three discs that include a 4K scan of the original film negative plus interviews with screenwriter Lawrence D. Cohen, cinematographer Mario Tosi, editor Paul Hirsch, casting director Harriet B. Helberg, director Brian De Palma, and actors like Sissy Spacek, Piper Laurie, William Katt, and more. There's also "a look at Carrie, The Musical," which has absolutely piqued my interest.

3. Alfred Hitchcock: The Ultimate Collection - 4K Ultra HD

Why it's a great gift: Here's almost everything you need for a Hitchcock movie marathon, in one box set, with tons and tons of bonus material. The Alfred Hitchcock: The Ultimate Collection 4K Ultra HD box set features the films Saboteur, Shadow of a Doubt, Rope, Rear Window, The Trouble with Harry, The Man Who Knew Too Much, Vertigo, North by Northwest, Psycho, The Birds, Marnie, Torn Curtain, Topaz, Frenzy, and Family Plot, totaling 29 hours and 23 minutes in run time across 15 films. That's nothing to sneeze at! The bonus material for each film varies, but the set contains audio commentaries from both film scholars and film crew, production photographs, sketches by Hitchcock, and more.

Well, here's your chance. In this Steelbook, there's a 4K scan of the original film negative presented in Dolby Vision, with three different audio tracks from Craven and actors Brandon Adams, A.J. Langer, Sean Whalen, and Yan Birch. There are additional interviews with Craven, Langer, and Whalen, alongside cinematographer Sandi Sissel and composer Don Peake. To top it off, there are featurettes exploring the social impact of the film, a "vintage making-of featurette," and original storyboards from the film.

5. Trick 'r Treat [4K Ultra HD]

Why it's a great gift: The anthology film, Trick 'r Treat, is a spooky season staple for me, and this 4K Ultra HD special edition version of the film takes the misadventures of Sam to the next level. It includes a 4K restoration done by Arrow Films, plus archival audio commentary by writer-director Michael Dougherty, concept artist Breehn Burns, storyboard artist Simeon Wilkins, and composer Douglas Pipes. It also has a 1996 short film by Michael Dougherty called Season's Greetings (to continue the holiday theme, of course), as well as a featurette narrated by William Stryker himself, Brian Cox, and more!
