January 2023 brings the 100th issue of the current Nightwing series, and DC is going all out to make it into a real event for fans of the character. How much of an event, you ask? Well, how does a slew of variant covers for a number of beloved artists — including the late George Pérez — and interior artwork from some fan-favorite creators who’ve worked on Dick Grayson’s solo title in the past sound?

The oversized issue will be written by Tom Taylor, who’s been heading up the destiny of the beloved DCU hero since 2021’s Nightwing #78 alongside artist Bruno Redondo — who is, unsurprisingly, one of the artists contributing to the 100th issue. He’ll be joined by Rick Leonardi, Scott McDaniel, Mikel Janin and Javier Fernandez on interiors; Leonardi and McDaniel contributed art to the long-running first ongoing Nightwing series, which ran from 1996 through 2009, while Janin was the lead artist on the critically-acclaimed Grayson series of 2014-2016. Fernandez, meanwhile, was the launch artist for the 2016 run that continues today.

That’s far from the end of the artistic tributes to Nightwing, however; the 56-page issue will be released with multiple covers beyond Redondo’s primary cover. Additionally, there will be variants by Jim Lee/Scott Williams/Alex Sinclair, Jorge Jimenez, Javier Fernandez/Tomeu Morey, Travis Moore, Babs Tarr, Jorge Fornés, Dan Mora, a wraparound cover by Jamal Campbell, an acetate variant by Redondo, and two covers based on design artwork for Nightwing’s original '80s costume by George Pérez.

The issue itself continues the current storyline in which Nightwing and new villain Heartless are fighting over control of Bludhaven, with the hero looking to set up a new headquarters in the city with the help of some friends... including, perhaps, the cast of many visible in Redondo’s main cover for the issue.

Nightwing #100 goes on sale January 17. Look at the gallery below for covers released for the issue so far.

There’s been a lot going on in Nightwing’s solo book recently, including a reveal that might change his love life moving forward.
