Slow Horses star Gary Oldman says he doesn't know if co-star Jack Lowden is playing James Bond
Despite recent comments implying otherwise, Gary Oldman is merely rooting for Jack Lowden to be the next 007 and doesn't know more than we do.

Everyone seems to have a theory about who will be replacing Daniel Craig as James Bond, and that includes Hollywood insiders. Earlier this week, Slow Horses star Gary Oldman seemed to imply that his co-star Jack Lowden had nabbed the part of 007, but he recently walked back those comments and said that he merely hoped Lowden would be the next James Bond.
Last week, Gary Oldman appeared to have said that Jack Lowden would be the next James Bond. “It’s been rumored that [Lowden is] on the shortlist,” he said of his Slow Horses co-star while talking to Canada's The Morning Show. “They have made their choice, but they have not announced it yet. So my fingers are crossed for Jack.”
Lowden is indeed one of the names leading the 007 casting news, along with Jack Barton, Callum Turner, and Jack O’Connell, so Oldman’s words didn’t come as a huge shock to fans. However, the implication that Jack Lowden would be the next Bond was new, especially from someone as connected as Gary Oldman.
More recently, Oldman has explained that he is merely rooting for his Slow Horses co-star to get the role, which is still one of the most high-profile acting gigs on the planet. “There’s six people on a shortlist,” Gary Oldman said at the Toronto International Film Festival. “I heard a rumor that they’ve picked James Bond, but they haven’t announced it yet, which is their prerogative. So I do not know [who has got the part], but I’m hoping it’s Jack.”
About the original misunderstanding, Oldman said he was merely speaking to an interviewer but didn’t mean to imply he had insider knowledge. “I said, ‘Fingers crossed for my mate Jack,’ and that was it. Like I’m in with the Bond people. I’ve got a red thumb. So, let me please put the record straight – I do not know who the next James Bond is.”
It sounds like Slow Horses star Jack Lowden is still in the running for the role of James Bond, but not even Gary Oldman knows for sure until an official announcement is made.
