Is Rebel Moon critic-proof? Zack Snyder’s sequel tops Netflix charts, and he proposes 4 more (Really)

Never underestimate the power of having an absurdly loyal and vocal fanbase

If there is anyone who has learned not to listen to critics, it is Zach Snyder. Despite a large amount of his films being slated by critics in recent years, he always manages to let it just wash off him, usually thanks to his incredibly loyal and loud fanbase. With Rebel Moon Part Two: The Scargiver topping Netflix’s charts (but failing to capture the hearts of critics), Snyder has decided now is the time to reveal that he has no less than four more entries planned.

Even as Rebel Moon Part Two: The Scargiver is being savaged by most critics, who have called it “weird, messy, and humorless” and accused it of “barely coloring outside the lines of its inspiration,” it has immediately become the most watched film on Netflix. However, it certainly isn’t the runaway hit that the streamer might have hoped, with less than half the first week numbers that Leave The World Behind had last year.

And yet, Zach Snyder remains undeterred. Not only is the director churning out re-cuts of both parts of Rebel Moon later this year, but he is also apparently planning up to four more movies in the series, according to an interview with Radio Times where he said he was thinking of making “four or six movies, depending... I guess it’s whether or not every time we make one of these movies we make two. That’s the question.”

Perhaps there is a lesson to be learned from all this. We should all aspire to be more like Zach Snyder in some ways, boldly going through life so free from self-doubt that we will pitch Netflix half a dozen movies that will be undoubtedly blitzed by critics and probably underperform for the streamer. It would be aspirational if it didn’t result in yet more Rebel Moon movies being made.
