A Good Girl's Guide to Murder season 3 will adapt the third Holly Jackson book, but there's still one Pip story that Netflix hasn't touched

Netflix isn't surprising anyone by adapting Holly Jackson's third Pip novel, but one mystery that still remains is what, if anything, they're going to do with Jackson's prequel

Good news, murder mystery fans! Netflix has officially renewed A Good Girl's Guide to Murder, the Emma Myers-starring adaptation of Holly Jackson's novel series of the same name, for season 3. And it might not surprise you to learn that the third season of the Top 10-placing show is adapting the third book in said trilogy, As Good as Dead. But after today's announcement, we do have one lingering question:

Will Holly Jackson's prequel novella to the series also get the Netflix treatment?

Let's back up a bit. The news of A Good Girl's Guide to Murder season 3 came to us via Deadline, and as you might expect, it came with a statement from the show's executive producer/star. "Thank you so much to everyone who has given this show love and support throughout!" said Myers, who plays series protagonist Pippa 'Pip' Fitz-Amobi, "Book 3 is my favorite of all the books, so I’m very excited to show everyone what we’ve done."

Joining Myers' excitement was series author (and fellow show producer) Holly Jackson, who was "ecstatic that we are able to bring A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder to its (bloody) conclusion," and also cited Book 3 as her favorite in the series. But what's interesting is that, as Jackson well knows, the conclusion of the trilogy wasn't the last time we saw Pip on a case.

Published in 2021, Jackson's Kill Joy was the last AGGGtM book by release date, but the first in terms of in-universe chronology. Novella Kill Joy served as a prequel to the intrigue found in the core trilogy of books, finding Pip at a 1920s-themed murder mystery party that feeds into a real world investigation. So will we ever get to see that part of Pip's literary adventure streaming at home?

Well, we're not expert investigators (or Netflix officials) here at Popverse, but if we had to guess, we'd say no.

A Good Girl's Guide to Murder season 3 is already showing signs of Netflix getting ready to wrap up the series, with a truncated 4-episode run rather than the 6-episode count in both seasons 1 and 2. Plus, Myers has got more macabre responsibilities in the upcoming Wednesday season 3, and there's only so many murderous plots that can fit into one person's schedule, no matter how talented they are.

Still, would we say no to a quick Kill Joy one-off should Netflix choose to adapt Jackson's trilogy outlier? I think you already know the answer to that mystery, reader.

A Good Girl's Guide to Murder season 2 is streaming now on Netflix. Holly Jackson's Kill Joy is available wherever books are sold.
