Larry David will tell you that he wasn't playing his real self in Curb Your Enthusiasm, but it sounds like he might have been, at least a little bit

As the saying goes, you can’t please everyone all the time. Even when a show is surrounded by as much hype as Alien: Earth, there are going to be some people who just aren’t feeling the concept. That’s what Timothy Olyphant discovered when he tried to explain the concept of Alien: Earth to Larry David, who only took 30 seconds to decide it simply wasn’t for him.
While promoting Alien: Earth, Timothy Olyphant appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live and explained that he had been to comedy writer Rory Albanese’s house not long before, when the Curb Your Enthusiasm star made his thoughts on Alien: Earth very clear. “We’re talking to Larry David, and Rory’s telling David that I’m in the new Alien thing. And he says, ‘Oh? What’s that about?’ And I don’t think I got 30 seconds into the pitch when he said, ‘It’s not for me.’ Literally 30 seconds… You know, he says that Curb Your Enthusiasm, he wasn’t playing him, but he likes to play that **** at parties. Let me tell you something.”
And it wasn’t that Olyphant, who plays Kirsh in Alien: Earth, didn’t do his best to sell the show to Larry David. “I literally, I was like, oh, it’s you know, it's Alien, so it’s got all the stuff that those, especially those early movies, had. But then I said, ‘It’s so interesting. It’s like they’re taking the… on Earth, the company is taking children’s brains and installing them into synthetic bodies so they live forever, and we’re talking all these interesting questions about mortality and what it is to be human. Meanwhile, spaceship hurtling towards Earth with the monster!’ And Larry says. ‘I’m out!’”
Alien: Earth, with or without Larry David’s approval, is airing now on FX and Hulu.
