As journalists, we look everywhere for a hint at what new anime is going to come out. Sometimes these announcements are given to us by a PR company. Sometimes we find them hidden in a licensing industry magazine. That happened this week as REMOW revealed it is co-producing a “high profile project” with Shueisha based on a series from Weekly Shonen Jump that ended more than 15 years ago. There are few details so far, but the news had us doing some wild speculation to figure out what the new anime could be.

According to Total Licensing’s Summer 2025 edition, REMOW, an anime licensing company, is working with Shueisha to revive a manga series that ran in Weekly Shonen Jump and ended more than 15 years ago. No other details were offered, other than the fact that the manga remained “among the top fan-requested titles for animation” despite ending somewhere around 2010.

What could this new anime adaptation be? With nothing confirmed by either REMOW or Shueisha, we were forced to do a little digging and speculate what it could be. Our best guess would be Psyren, the manga series by Toshiaki Iashiro that was serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump from 2007 to 2010, putting it around the right time frame for this announcement. While Psyren sold well during its run and remains popular since, it was overshadowed by titles like Naruto, Bleach, One Piece, and Gintama, which all ran during that time.

Considering it had such iconic competition for our attention, you could be forgiven for not having heard of Psyren. If these rumors are true, however, that could be about to change. We’re unlikely to find out anytime soon, however, as it sounds like the project is still in the early stages of its development.
