Batman: Caped Crusader Season 1 recap: What to remember before season 2 of the Prime Video show

Here's everything you need to remember from Season 1 of Prime Video's Batman animated series, including the ending and the villain teased for Season 2

In Batman: Caped Crusader, the film-noir inspired animated series from Bruce Timm (Batman: The Animated Series), DC's World's Greatest Detective gets a decidedly dark treatment. Starring Hamish Linklater as Bruce Wayne, the show will soon be returning for a second season, and here's what to remember before the show returns to Prime Video on July 31st, 2026 - and a look at the new season's trailer, to boot.

What is Batman: Caped Crusader?

Batman: Caped Crusader tells the familiar story of Batman through a film noir lens. Set in the 1940s, the show depicts Bruce Wayne (Linklater) in his early days as a costumed crime fighter, the show draws inspiration from the Batman comics of the 1940s, 50s and 60s. The show also stars Jason Watkins as Bruce's butler Alfred Pennyworth and Eric Morgan Stuart as Gotham City Police Commissioner Jim Gordon. Also appearing are Krystal Joy Brown as public defender Barbara Gordon and Michelle C. Bonilla as police detective Renee Montoya. Meanwhile, John DiMaggio plays Harvey Bullock and Gary Anthony Williams plays Arnold Flass, two corrupt police officers paid off by the Thorne crime family.

How did Batman: Caped Crusader Season 1 end?

In the Season 1 finale of Caped Crusader, a newly redeemed Two-Face (Diedrich Bader) sacrificed himself in order to rescue Barbara from Flass. While Batman is tempted to shoot Flass out of anger, he ultimately abstains from doing so, preserving his humanity. However, the season did end on a cliffhanger, as a mysterious man has been murdering people with a combination of toxins that causes them to laugh uncontrollably... Could Season 2 bring the Joker to the series? The trailer for the season doesn't explicitly answer that question, but does feature a new threat in the Joker's familiar purple clothing...

Is there a Batman: Caped Crusader Season 2 trailer?

The Season 2 trailer for Batman: Caped Crusader teases some of the new threats facing Bruce Wayne's cowled alter-ego in his sophomore outing - in particular, a villain who promises to show the Batman who he really is. Take a look for yourself:

Batman: Caped Crusader Season 2 arrives for streaming on Prime Video on July 31st, 2026.

Batman is the most well-known superhero in the world — surprisingly, given how much he loves hanging out in the dark. But between his comics, TV shows, movies, games, and more, DC's Dark Knight is the hero this city/country/world/universe needs, and we have all you need to enjoy him even more:
