A Critical Role movie? Sam Riegel reveals a pitch is underway, and even hints it's during Calamity

Are you ready for a Critical Role movie?

Sam Riegel is, and he’s working on getting one off the ground.

“We’re about to pitch — I don’t even know if you guys know this — we’re about to pitch a movie. We’ve got things cooking,” Riegel tells Popverse’s Grant DeArmitt earlier this weekend backstage at Emerald City Comic Con.

What type of movie would this be? Riegel gave a very big clue later at the Sunday ECCC Critical Role panel.

“Would you guys like to see an animated Calamity movie,” Riegel asks the audience. The crowd full of Critters enthusiastically cheered, making their preference clear. “I would too. I would too."

Putting those two statements together, it seems like Riegel is putting together a pitch for an animated film set during Exandria’s Calamity war, which ended Exandria's Age of Arcanum and set up what's known as the Divergence.

I’m not sure who Riegel and the Critical Role cast are pitching the project to, but if they saw the enthusiasm from the ECCC audience, the decision would be a no-brainer. Besides, the Critical Role gang has already conquered television with The Legend of Vox Machina and The Mighty Nein, so an animated Calamity movie feels like the next step.

With two animated series on Prime Video, Campaign 4 in full swing, and so much more Exandrian lore to come, Critical Role is showing no signs of slowing down. That's why the adventuring party at Popverse are here to bring you everything we can from those nerdy-ass voice actors & Bo., including:

...and much, much more. Roll initiative, player. Magic awaits.
