Prime Video brings in Shōgun veteran to bring God of War to TV
Shōgun director Frederick E.O. Toye will direct episodes of Prime Video's upcoming God of War TV show

It's a good time for people wielding melee weapons onscreen in television. Whether it's Shōgun, Stranger Things, or The Witcher, old-fashioned weapons fighting has been back en vogue on the small screen. Given the success of Shōgun in particular, it only makes sense that some talent from the award-winning FX show would find opportunities within Prime Video's forthcoming God of War TV adaptation.
Deadline reports that director Frederick E.O. Toye has signed on to direct the first two episodes of Prime Video's God of War show. Previously, Toye won an Emmy for directing the Shōgun episode "Crimson Sky," so if you've been worrying about whether or not the God of War show is going to be good, consider your fears assuaged. Toye knows how to cook.
In case you're not familiar, the God of War video game series follows a traumatized, shirtless, bald warrior dude named Kratos. Lovingly referred to as "the angriest man in video games," (or, at least, within the world of a video game) Kratos has sliced, diced, smashed, slashed, what have you, through hordes of enemies since he debuted in the 2005 video game that started the franchise. Over the years, he's wielded giant battleaxes, whips, spears, swords, chains, and gauntlets to take out whoever was standing in his way.
I'll be honest with you, I'm most looking forward to seeing how the God of War TV show depicts Kratos's fighting style, because the animation for his chain-blade swinging (?) in the first God of War game had me keeling over in laughter on my friend's couch. (It looks funnier when the game is played on a CRT television, I swear.)
God of War is in pre-production now.
