Hazbin Hotel star Blake Roman didn't know what shipping was before joining the cast - but the fandom has been sure to give him an education
Shipping, OCs, and fanfiction weren't something Blake Roman knew about before, but Hazbin Hotel fans were sure to help fill in those blanks for him.

Those of us who live our lives perpetually online sometimes assume that the words we use are common knowledge, but not everyone is as clued up as we are. In fact, one Hazbin Hotel cast member was blissfully ignorant of many of the finer points of fandom – until Hazbin Hotel fans got their hands on him.
Blake Roman plays Angel Dust, who is a self-proclaimed deviant even by the standards of Hell, in Hazbin Hotel. Although he is one of the most unapologetically sinful characters in the show, Roman admits that he hadn’t been exposed to the finer points of fandom during the Hazbin Hotel panel at MCM London 2025.
“I wasn’t aware of what an OC or even really, really familiar with what ‘shipping’ was before getting into this,” Roman explained as a chorus of nervous laughter rose from the audience. Because he was soon to find out.
“You freaks,” Roman teased, laughing along with the audience. “You giggling… It was something that I, like, had no idea about and then everyone was like ‘What do you think about RadioApple?’ And I’m like ‘What the fuck are you saying? Those are just two nouns!’ And then just learning all of these headcanons and ships and stories that people, like ways that people create characters and then put them into the whole story was not something that I had been familiar with before but it feels like such a cool invitation into interacting with the material.”
Safe to say, no one involved in Hazbin Hotel is likely to avoid the deep fervor of the fandom for long, so we’re sure that they gave Black Roman and the rest of the Hazbin Hotel cast a gentle introduction to shipping. Right?
