The Marvel Universe will never be the same after Popverse Playlist for September 12-18, 2026
Avengers: Armageddon is promising a big change for Marvel's comic book universe, Apple's failed secret agents are back in a new Slow Horses season, and it's time for more Resident Evil from the man behind Weapons

As we draw to a close on another week of this business we call show, it’s time to look backwards, look forwards and take stock… of just how much good stuff is coming up in the next few months. (We actually have some lists to prove it.) Fall doesn’t officially arrive for another week or so — the first say is officially September 22 — but we all feel the change in the weather and it’s a fine time to curl up with a book, something warm to drink, and some fine entertainment playing in the background. We here at Popverse Playlist are happy to help make that happen for you.
This week: An all-time Apple TV classic returns, the comic book Marvel Universe gets a big new arrival, and a horror franchise is given a makeover by one of the hottest new directors around. Things may be cooling down in terms of overall temperature, but it’s heating up for pop culture vultures.
If you only watch one show this week, then it really has to be… Slow Horses Season 6

If you’ve yet to enjoy the particular appeal of Apple’s Slow Horses, then the arrival of the sixth season is a sign that, honestly, you’ve got a lot of fun viewing to catch up on. Simultaneously a well-done spy show and a skewering of spy tropes, the show revolves around Gary Oldman’s gloriously, deceptively shambolic Jackson Lamb, a spymaster who’s seen better days but is nowhere near as past it as he makes out, heading up Slough House: an outpost staffed by a number of British secret service agents who have each, in their own way, screwed up badly enough to be put out to pasture. Do they somehow manage to do good deeds despite that? Yes, they do. Is it all by design and smart planning? Rarely.
Slow Horses Season 6 begins on Apple TV September 16.
If you only check out one movie this week, then it should be… Resident Evil

Even if we weren’t already into the idea of a well-made Resident Evil movie — come on, who doesn’t like a good zombie film, especially as the nights start drawing in? — the fact that this one in particular comes from Zach Cregger, director of Weapons and Barbarian, transforms it into a must-see. He’s talked about rooting it in relatable human concerns, with an idiot as its protagonist, which suggests that we’re in for a funny, scary ride that’s purposefully unlike anything we’ve seen in a Resident Evil movie before. (And don’t forget, there’s been quite a few of them by now.) What’s just around the corner? No idea, and that’s maybe the most thrilling thing of all.
Resident Evil shambles in theaters September 18, 2026.
If you can only pick up one comic this week, then make sure it’s… Avengers: Armageddon #4

While we’re thinking about the mystery of it all, Marvel is making a big deal out of the fact that something big is about to happen in the penultimate issue of its event series, Avengers: Armageddon. “The Marvel Universe changes forever right here and right now,” is how the publisher blurbs the issue, adding that “a shocking character makes their debut.” There’s some wild rumors about concerning just who and what that shocking character might be — some that seem so unlikely that, if they were true, it’d be a Miracle, man — and, you know what? This kind of advertising works. I’m already in line for this issue, and it’s not just because I’m ready to see the Red Hulk get his just desserts already.
Avengers: Armageddon #4 is available in comic book stores September 16, 2026.
