Ransom Canyon's Garrett Wareing sure does talk like season 2 is happening

Wareing, who plays Lucas Russell on Netflix's western romance, talks about a Ransom Canyon season 2 like it's confirmed. Which we should remind you - it is not (yet)

Not even a week has passed since Netflix released Ransom Canyon, a brand new western romance based on the Jodi Thomas books of the same name, and already the show has people talking about season 2. For the most part, that's just the show's legions of viewers (7.2 million, says Netflix), but even at least one of the cast members is joining that conversation. And the way Garret Wareing talks about it, it sure feels like he knows that a second season is already being worked on.

Before we go any further, let's be very clear - Netflix has not officially announced a Ransom Canyon season 2. It's just that, in a recent interview with Cosmopolitan, Wareing spoke about a second season with a confidence that seemed to hint at the idea that he knows more than we do. And considering the fact that he plays one of the show's major characters, Lucas Russell, we're taking notice.

Published on April 23, Wareing's interview with Cosmo began with the kind of stuff that you'd expect from an interview with the star of a steamy romance series - talk about sex scenes, body doubles, and of course, horses. But then at about the midway point, the interviewer asks Wareing about a popular fan ship (that is, between Lizzy Greene's Lauren Brigman and Casey W. Johnson's Kit Russell) and Wareing responds by saying:

"Let's find out in season two, huh? We'll see."

Sure, it could've been an off-the-cuff remark Wareing went to to give one of those "answer-not-answers" that celebrities are so apt to give when someone asks about unknown plot details. But then shortly after, Wareing brought up season 2 again, and again, it was unprompted. Asked about Lucas's relationship with Philip Winchester's Dan Brigman, Wareing says:

"I hope I have more scenes with him in season two."

At this point, the interviewer has to bring up whether or not Wareing knows something he's not telling us, and for the first time in the entire piece, Wareing suddenly plays coy about future episodes of Ransom Canyon.

"I'm sitting here," Wareing says, "anxious as you all are waiting for that announcement for season two. I'm hopeful. I am excited, and we'll keep our fingers crossed."

"Anxious as we all are," eh Garrett? A likely story. I know that I don't have as much experience ranching as your character does, but let me tell you, something about that last answer smells like BS.

Ransom Canyon (season 1, for now) is streaming on Netflix now.
