Star Trek: Strange New Worlds isn't as done with the Gorn as it might seem, say showrunners
The reptilian alien threat may be sleeping, but they're not gone from the Star Trek series for good, according to the people who'd know

If the end of the third season premiere of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds felt as if it brought the threat of the Gorn to an end, think again — series showrunner Henry Alonso Myers and Akiva Goldsman are teasing that there’s more to the story yet… and that there’s Star Trek canon easter eggs for the audience to find in the series, too.
“You will see more of the Gorn. The Gorn are not gone, but the Gorn are not the primary adversary for season 3,” Goldsman told TrekMovie when asked about the alien threat that’s been so present in the first two seasons of the show.
The fact that the Gorn were put into hibernation by the Enterprise in the climax of ‘Hegemony, Part 2’ wasn’t intended as a set-up to the alien race’s appearance in the original series episode ‘Arena’ “yet,” according to Goldsman, although writers are very aware of that episode. “Whenever possible we try to really dovetail with canon,” he explained. “I mean, there are certain things that were just out the window, like the canonical dates of World War III and things like that. But yeah, we’ll chase an idea that ‘Arena’ could feel brand new by the time we get to ‘Arena.’”
The groundwork is already being laid for that TOS episode, as it turns out — eagle-eyed viewers might have noticed that Cestus appeared on the map of space outlining the Gorn hegemony in the new SNW episode… the same planet where Kirk and the Gorn face off in the 1960s show. “We don’t do accidents,” is all co-showrunner Henry Alonso Myers will say on the matter. So.. does that mean we’re going to return to Cestus before the series ends with its fifth season?
