Anne Rice’s Immortal Universe is gaining real estate at AMC this October, with the arrival of Talamasca: The Secret Order. While Interview with the Vampire is overt in its horror and sexuality, this six-episode series will focus on themes of silence, subterfuge, and surveillance. The Talamasca is a clandestine organization made up of scholars and spies that watches over the supernatural, studying vampires, witches, and demons. Their main purpose though is to remain secret, or unseen, and to observe without actually getting their hands dirty by interfering with the natural order.
Our window into this world of supernatural espionage is Guy Anatole, played by Nicholas Denton, who is approached by the Secret Order to join their cause because he himself has special talents and that he has been groomed his whole life for the moment he joins the Talamasca. Guy’s reluctance to trust the Talamasca, while finally getting some answers to some long-asked questions about himself will drive the series as well as more hijinks between supernaturals.
“I was kind of drawn to doing something in the spy world, and at first I was like, I'm not sure these two different genres can meld, horror and spy, but then I started thinking about the similarities,” co-show-runner John Lee Hancock explained to San Diego Comic-Con how he came to the notion of the series. “Shadows, lies, half truths, living in the shadows, and I don't know. I was drawn to that and I thought that they could work together and so I set out to tell a spy thriller that has some vampires and witches and some supernatural thrown in.”
“I thought this compliments Interview with the Vampire and Mayfair Witches,” added AMC executive producer Mark Johnson. “So we have a third show now that on one hand is unlike the other two that I just mentioned, but they're all connected.”
There is no one book by Rice that focuses on the Talamsca, but they do appear in “The Queen of the Damned,” “The Tale of the Body Thief” and the Mayfair Witches trilogy. Because of that, expect to see familiar faces from Interview with a Vampire and Mayfair.
Talamasca co-showrunner Mark Lafferty already had a chance to write Ciprien “Sip” Grieveand who is a Talamasca agent headed to Amsterdam in an episode of Mayfair Witches. While in that writer’s room, Lafferty says he got to do some batting practice with some characters that will factor into the series like Raglan James.
“In Mayfair, the Talamasca office is a little outpost in New Orleans, but you kind of hear these echoes, you kind of hear rumors, you kind of hear about the larger organization and so, you know, you got a little bit of a crack of light in that show,” Lafferty recalled. “With this show, we just kick the door wide open and you get access to this entire world if you're a fan of the other shows.”
In the trailer we see a very familiar face, Interview with a Vampire’s Daniel Molloy who plays Eric Bogosian, everyone’s favorite cynical journalist. The last we saw Molloy, he was turned into a vampire in the Season 2 finale of Interview by Armand and released the interview with vampire Louis de Pointe du Lac as a best-selling novel.
“In the first episode you might, you might see, one or two faces and I think that like the thing that that all of us talked about, in the creation of the show is that we wanted to make sure that if you see characters from one of the other shows it's not because we're trying to just, you know, wedge them into a story that doesn't make sense.”
“I think we've figured out a few ways, that you guys will see when you watch the show, where some of those characters from those other shows, come in and, and really help complicate and make the show a real thrill ride.”
Talamasca: The Secret Order will air on AMC and AMC+ on October 26, 2025.
