The Boys Season 5 release date ushers in the unexpected Summer of Karl Urban along with Mortal Kombat 2

Karl Urban could star in both the biggest show and the biggest movie of the year as both The Boys release date and Mortal Kombat 2 release date overlap.

Hollywood is about to find out just how powerful Karl Urban’s star power really is. Not only are we getting to see him and his (probably) ridiculous powers in Mortal Kombat 2, but we now know that The Boys Season 5 release date is coming to Prime Video just a month earlier. That means that the Summer of Urban is coming in 2026, with Karl Urban set to dominate both film and TV at the same time.

It is all because Mortal Kombat 2 was set to be a bit too good for its October 2025 release date. New Line Cinema instead shifted it to May 8, 2026 so it could kickstart the summer blockbuster season in style. Now, after plenty of speculation, we finally have a release date for The Boys Season 5 – April 8, 2026. The final episode of The Boys is set to air on May 20, giving us two weeks where Karl Urban could be starring in the biggest show on streaming and the number one movie at the box office.

This banks on the idea that Mortal Kombat 2 lives up to the considerable hype and The Boys Season 5 delivers the epic finale that we’ve all been waiting for. The trailer that Amazon dropped over the weekend certainly shows the stakes of what is coming. Continuing the series’ unsettling ability to reflect real-world events, people have been rounded up into Freedom Camps at the whims of an erratic, egomaniacal dictator, Homelander.

We already know that the series isn’t likely to end the same way that the comic book does, but we expect it to be bloody diabolical. Meanwhile, Mortal Kombat 2 is going to be just bloody.

The Boys Season 5 is out on April 8, 2026, meaning it will overlap with the release of Mortal Kombat 2 at the box office by two weeks. That means we get an early start on the Summer of Karl Urban.
