It's been over four years since The CW's Legends of Tomorrow aired its last episode - or as you might not know if you're not an Arrowverse fan, season 7, episode 13. Another thing you might not know if you're not an Arrowverse fan - Legends of Tomorrow's storyline never actually ended, with its seventh season being cancelled just after a tantalizing cliffhanger. For the past couple of years, DC TV fans have been desperate to have the storylines introduced in the show wrapped up... and according to one of the series' creators, the network it aired on wanted the same thing.
That creator, or co-creator I guess I should say, is Marc Guggenheim, one of the minds behind not just DC's wacky time travel adventure, but the Arrowverse as a whole. We recently got the chance to chat with Guggenheim at C2E2 2026, and during the course of our conversation, the producer dropped a massive bomb about the show's unfinished arc.
"The network wanted to pay for a movie to wrap up the storylines," Guggenheim told us, "And Warner Bros said no."
That's right, TV fans: Sara Lance, Nate Heywood, and the rest of the gang might've had a chance to see their legends wrapped up, had WB not put their foot down. Now to be fair, it's not like this opportunity was too-closely missed, as Guggenheim explained when we asked him how far he and the team got into developing the Legends of Tomorrow movie.
"Not at all," Guggenheim answered, "I got a phone call from [former CEO of The CW] Mark Pedowitz saying, ‘You know, we tried.’"
What Guggenheim didn't say is why Warner Bros. axed the LoT movie idea before it got the chance to take shape. Earlier in our discussion, Guggenheim did talk about the fact that WB changed the Arrowverse's plans for Ted Kord (who was originally supposed to fill Brandon Routh's Ray Palmer role) because of the upcoming Blue Beetle movie. However, if the Legends of Tomorrow film idea was killed due to something the studio was developing at the time, that info wasn't conveyed to its producers.
DC's Legends of Tomorrow is streaming now on Netflix.
