In The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, fans of JRR Tolkien's seminal fantasy saga are treated to a live-action adaptation of material originally contained in the Middle Earth appendices. And soon, The Rings of Power will be returning for Season 3, which will take place during the height of the conflict between the Dark Lord Sauron (Charlie Vickers) and the Elves. What happened in Season 2 of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power?

In the final episode of The Rings of Power Season 2, Durin III (Peter Mullan) is savagely attacked by a Balrog. Before he fights back, he names Durin IV (Owain Arthur) as his successor. The Stranger (Daniel Weyman) confronts the Dark Wizard (Ciarán Hinds) and rejects his offer to take Sauron's place. Instead, he finds a staff and decides he will adopt the name "Gandalf." 

Meanwhile, Sauron kills Celebrimbor (Charles Edwards) and claims the nine rings from Galadriel (Morfydd Clark). Adar (Sam Hazeldine) is killed by Orcs. Finally, Durin IV sends his army to assist the Elves. This allows Arondir (Ismael Cruz Córdova), Elrond (Robert Aramayo), Galadriel, Gil-galad (Benjamin Walker) and other survivors to escape from the city, where the convene in a valley and resolve to stand together against the forces of Sauron.

Is there a trailer for The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 3?

While there is not a full trailer for the season as of writing, there is a teaser for the new season, which debuted at San Diego Comic-Con 2026.

Season 3 of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is slated to arrive on Prime Video on November 11th, 2026.
