Popverse's top stories of the day

Some people always remember their first. For others, their last. For Chris Evans and his run in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, he remembers his best as Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

Earlier this year at Seattle's Emerald City Comic Con, Popverse's Veroncia Valencia spoke with Evans in front of a packed Seattle Convention Center main stage about his career - and we couldn't go without asking about Winter Soldier, given that 2024 is the ten-year anniversary of the film. And in the conversation, Evans talked about why it is his favorite of all his MCU work so far.

"There was alot to prove, to make your mark, taking more risks."

"10 years. [You're] making me feel old," Evans tells Popverse's Veronica Valencia. "It's my personal favorite Marvel movie I've been a part of. And it's not just for the movie itself, but the experience. On the first film, I was so nervous. You know what you're stepping into, you know what Marvel's expecting out of it. As a result, you're playing defense; you're playing not to lose."

Evans filmed Captain America: The Winter Soldier three years after his first film, and after appearing in both 2012's The Avengers and 2013's Thor: The Dark World. With his first sequel, Evans was working with the same screenwriters as his first film, but all-new directors in Anthony and Joe Russo - with whom he would go on to film Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame, and more. And he and his groove with them early.

"When Winter Soldier came around, we were all kind of playing to win," says Evans. It was my first film with the Russos. There was a lot to prove, to make your mark, taking more risks. The character felt more fleshed out. It was a really exciting time, and I think they nailed it."

"So for me, it was one of the more satisfying experiences in my Marvel run."

We agree, Ste- I mean, Chris. We agree.

Chris Evans is one of cinema's leading actors, and if you've made it this far you're a fan as well. So with that in mind, here's his thoughts on returning to the MCU, a ranking of his top roles (and how you can vote!), why Winter Soldier is his favorite Marvel movie, his ambitions to be in a fantasy movie, and how to watch all of his Captain America run.
