Popverse's top stories of the day

Chris Evans has been in some of the biggest films in the world, and has been doing it for over 20 years. But there's one genre he hasn't done - and they're actually his favorite type of film.

It's fantasy.

In a rollicking conversation that just occured with Popverse's Veronica Valencia at Seattle's Emerald City Comic Con, the Captain America star was asked about films he'd like to do and he zeroed in quickly on fantasy, even name-checking a couple franchises and inferring the type of role he'd want - an elf!

"I'm a big fan of fantasy films. I love Lord of the Rings. I love The Neverending Story," Evans says. "I don't know if I fit into them. I don't know if I'm even considered for them."

Evans is in luck, as right after his panel at ECCC was a Lord of the Rings reunion panel with Elijah Wood, Sean Astin, and John Rhys-Davies that Popverse is livestreaming. And as it trns out, the LOTR cast wouldn't mind seeing Evans in a fantasy franchise either.

As if he needed to prove himself to studios (or the rapt fans in attendance), Evans joked "I can wear pointy ears!" and "I can shoot a bow & arrow!"

"Honestly, they're my favorite type of films, but they're also big giant movies that are also tough to do well, so a lot of different ingredients have to come together correctly."

Evans would know, after being one of the pivotal players in the MCU - and especially the extravaganza that is Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.

"Shogun isn't exactly fantasy, but anything that has a beautiful aesthetic," Evans continues. "Anything that has that kind of beautiful aesthetic, that kind of world-building."

Also, Evans also name-dropped Jim Henson's Labyrinth - which earns some extra applause from fans inside the Main Stage. "David Bowie fans, huh?"

But now I'm just imaginging Chris Evans with Muppets in a fantasy movie.

Chris Evans is one of cinema's leading actors, and if you've made it this far you're a fan as well. So with that in mind, here's his thoughts on returning to the MCU, a ranking of his top roles (and how you can vote!), why Winter Soldier is his favorite Marvel movie, his ambitions to be in a fantasy movie, and how to watch all of his Captain America run.
