Marvel Comics to end its current Avengers era after 3 years to set-up Doomsday tie-in and Armageddon takeover
Marvel's Avengers are reaching "the end of an era," ahead of 2026's ibg plans in comics and movies.

Ahead of a new Avengers movie, Marvel is now setting the stage for that in comics - by clearing out what came before.

As they did leading up to and through the past four Avengers movies, Marvel Comics is ending its current Avengers comics run to make way for what comes next. Series writer Jed McKay and artist C.F. Villa relaunched the Avengers series back in May 2023, creating one of the few major iterations of the team not to feature its longtime leader, Steve Rogers. In that time, they revitalized the time-traveling villain Kang, did a vampire-centric event called Blood Hunt, and re-established Scarlet Witch and Vision as core team members, as well as bringing in Storm in a more permanent way.
That all is coming to a head on March 4 with the 'season' finale of Avengers #34, by McKay and artist Farid Karami.
"It’s sad to say goodbye to the Avengers after the last few years of chronicling their adventures, but we certainly had some fun- introducing them to the Impossible City, putting them against their old nemesis, Kang, and even putting them through their paces in the blood-soaked first-ever Red Band event!" McKay says in the announcement. "I got to work [with] some of the best artists working today on some of the biggest characters Marvel has, and I'll always remember my time with Earth's Mightiest Heroes fondly!"
Marvel Comics is marketing this as a "pivotal moment in Avengers history" and the "end of an era." While not stated explicitly, this works to bookend this run ahead of the upcoming summer comics event Armageddon, which writer Chip Zdarsky has quietly said will be Avengers-centric, to the point he's calling it Avengers: Armageddon.
While Zdarsky isn't listed as co-writing Avengers #36, Marvel says McKay and Karami's Avengers #36 "will also set up the next era of Avengers."
