A new Battle Angel Alita manga is coming and its release date is next week

Just because James Cameron keeps having other things to do than make a new Battle Angel Alita movie doesn’t mean that the franchise is dead. In fact, the Battle Angel Alita manga is still ongoing, with a new story arc (with a surprisingly soon release date) coming out soon. Because badass robots fighting against inequality never go out of style.
Earlier this week, Kodansha announced that the next entry in the Battle Angel Alita franchise was coming. Called GUNNM: Kiko-Jutsu Senki, or Battle Angel Alita: Panzer Kunst Chronicle, the first chapter has a release date of May 5, 2026. Yukito Kishiro, the original creator of Battle Angel Alita, is back to continue the story he started back in 1990.
The most recent entry in the Battle Angel Alita franchise was Battle Angel Alita: Mars Chronicle, which saw the titular cyborg journey to Mars to discover her origins. It came to an end in March 2025. Then, in November, Kishiro confirmed he was working on a new storyline. Now, we know that it is the Panzer Kunst Chronicle and that it is going to be published online via Kodansha’s Comic Days platform.
We don’t yet know what Battle Angel Alita: Panzer Kunst Chronicle will be about, though it is worth mentioning that Panzer Kunst is the martial arts form that Alita uses, so we can probably expect plenty of big fights and maybe a training sequence mixed in.
