James Tynion and Michael Avon Oeming's Blue Book true-life UFO stories spread to the Soviet Union and beyond in new series Red Book

Discover the truth behind UFO sightings in 20th century Communist Russia and China in James Tynion and Michael Avon Oeming's Red Book, coming this fall from Dark Horse Comics

What’s the next step after spilling the truth after America’s alien abductions with their acclaimed comic book series Blue Book? For creators James Tynion IV and Michael Avon Oeming, the answer is clear — start doing the same for China and the Soviet Union in their upcoming new series, Red Book. (Look, the title is a masterstroke, let’s be honest.)

Launching in October, the four-issue Red Book will take a look at the history of UAPs — that’s Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena, for those not in the know; they used to be called UFOs — in the Communist states, starting with the story behind the unexplained deaths of nine students in Russia in 1961. What was really behind what became known as the Dyatlov Pass incident? Some believe that aliens were involved…

“Mike and I wanted to do something special with the latest volume of Blue Book and I think you'll love what we have in store for you,” Tynion said in a statement from the publisher. "We're bring our True Weird goodness to the other side of the globe with Red Book, where we're getting to dig into the truth behind UFO encounters from the Soviet Union and Communist China from over the 20th Century!"

As with previous issues of Blue Book, each issue of the new series will feature a story by Tynion and Oeming (with letters from Tom Napolitano) alongside a back-up story from a rotating cast of creators; the first issue’s back-up comes from Malachi Ward, with letters from Aditya Bidikar. The first issue will also feature cover art from Oeming, Yuko Shinizu, Tyler Boss, and Dani; you can see the covers in the gallery below.

Red Book #1 will be released October 8. Until then, keep yourself busy with the Blue Book Library Edition Vol. 1... or just keep watching the skies…!
