Exorcisms, half-demons and queer Victorian romance collide in Oni Press's 2026 graphic novel The Demon of Beausoleil

The fan-favorite webcomic from Brazilian cartoonist Mariana Costa will come to print in January 2026 from Oni Press

It’s the classic story: boy meets half-demon, boy becomes bodyguard for half-demon, half-demon falls in love with boy who probably isn’t interested, really, and then things get complicated — but in the remixed psuedo-London of Mariana Costa’s romance The Demon of Beausoleil, everything is up for grabs, and nothing should be taken for granted. Especially not when complicated feelings are involved.

The story, which originally ran as a webcomic, is set for a mainstream print release in January 2026, bringing the story of exorcist (and part-demon) Helianthes — Hell for short, because of course — and his bodyguard and potential love interest Elias to a wider audience. Together, the two take on supernatural occurrences throughout London, all while navigating a relationship that may be more confusing (and more scary) than anything else that goes bump in the night.

“I wrote The Demon of Beausoleil with the sole purpose of making something as self-indulgent and, dare I say it, unpublishable, as I possibly could, at a time during which I was flooded with commercial work I wasn't quite so passionate about,” Brazilian cartoonist Costa said in a statement from the publisher. “I feel so lucky and grateful that Oni Press has taken a chance on me and that Helianthes will get to plague even more people than I could've ever imagined now in the first ever print edition!”

“We’re so excited to bring Mariana Costa’s wonderful story to comic shops and bookstores,” added Oni Press Editor Megan Brown. “The Demon of Beausoleil is a remarkably poignant look at self-acceptance in a world of magic, mayhem, and mystery. It will make you laugh, it will make you cry, but most importantly — it will make you fall in love with its characters. We’re so thrilled to bring readers such a meaningful queer story centered around self-acceptance — and love.”
