How Marvel's Thor helped Jason Aaron find his Superman inspiration for DC's Absolute Universe

Jason Aaron wrote Thor for 100 issues at Marvel Comics, and all of that time with the God of Thunder gave the writer ideas for how he'd tackle Superman for DC Comics

As a grown man who has been moved to tears more than once by Superman and Thor stories, I appreciate when comic book writers like Jason Aaron shed light on what it's like to write both characters. Obviously, Thor and Superman have their differences as characters, as they're rooted in two different cultural contexts. But they also share some basic storytelling DNA as Men Who Fell To Earth.

At Fan Expo Canada, writer Jason Aaron dished on how his time writing Thor for Marvel Comics later shaped his approach to writing Superman for DC's Absolute Universe. Singling out Thor: God of Thunder #12, an issue that explores a day in the life of being Thor, Aaron posited that the story got him thinking about Superman.

“I think that issue of Thor, when I wrote that, was the first time I really thought seriously about what I would do with Superman. Because people at the time even said it felt a little Superman-y. And I was like, ‘Yeah, it kinda was.’ That was definitely on my mind," Aaron said.

Aaron is now the writer of Absolute Superman and has written issues of Action Comics. At Fan Expo, Aaron reiterated his commitment to further exploring Superman as a character, alluding to how he wrote Thor for 100 or so issues for Marvel. Considering that Absolute Superman is not a limited series, but an ongoing one, it would be great to see Aaron's tenure on the book last just as long as his one on various Thor books.
