What happens when Cyclops is dropped into a Wolverine story? Marvel is finding out

Cyclops’ new X-Men Marvel Comics series is about one question: “What if you put Scott in a Wolverine story?”

Cyclops and Wolverine are like oil and water, right? One is the embodiment of a nice pair of LL Bean slippers, while the other probably isn't sure if he ever cut his toenails for a decade or so. Scott likes neatness and cleanliness; Logan won't hesitate to sleep on a piece of cardboard on the floor. But what happens if you put Scott in a typical, outdoorsy Wolverine story?

This is precisely where writer Alex Paknadel got the idea for the plot of his Rogê Antônio's Cyclops series from Marvel Comics. On the Voice of the Heroes podcast, Paknadel walked through his line of thinking for putting Cyclops in a man-versus-wild type of situation.

“What are the character implications and what kind of fun can you have if you take a Wolverine story and put Cyclops in it? And then all of a sudden, the possibilities multiply," Paknadel began. "And I mean this with absolute affection, Wolverine is right at home in [the woods], Scott’s a control freak. You put a control freak in a situation where he can’t control anything, then all of a sudden, things get real interesting.”

What's also tantalizing about Paknadel and Antônio's Cyclops story is that Scott is currently without his visor in the woods. Meaning, the dude can't open his eyes, lest he start beef with me, the reader, and commit a crime against the wilderness. Obviously, Logan has had it tough when he's lived among wolfpacks in the backcountry, but he at least has a powerful sense of smell and claws that are useful in hunting prey.

Still, one mustn't ever bet against Scott Summers. After all, he did read Sun Tzu's The Art of War when he was a young man. We'll have to see how he makes it out as Paknadel and Antônio's series continues.
