If you've ever walked down to the South Street Seaport in Lower Manhattan, chances are you've walked past Midtown Comics' Downtown location on Fulton Street. This spring, the satellite location of Midtown Comics will undergo renovations that will expand its square footage, gifting New York City's comic book readers with a larger space to hunt for their favorite books.
The news was broken by PIX11 News, where they noted that Midtown's location at 64 Fulton Street in Manhattan will be closed from February 23 to May 12 for renovations. PIX11 reported that the "store plans to host a grand reopening on May 13 with two new floors."
The Downtown location had a 60% off sale to make room for the renovations before closing temporarily, according to the store's Instagram page. Wednesday warriors and other comic book readers can shop at Midtown's locations in Times Square, Grand Central, and Astoria in the meantime.
For years, Midtown Comics' Downtown location was on the second floor of a building, and the store's plans to reopen with a whole other floor make me wonder if they will have a street-level entrance and storefront this time around. That would certainly make them more visible to street traffic. I should know: my grandmother lived across the street from the Downtown location for twenty years, and I remember looking up and seeing Midtown's Spider-Man window decals when I was a kid.
Good luck to the Midtown Comics team with the ongoing renovations!
