Popverse’s Ashley V. Robinson got the chance to sit down with comics legend Tom King in the Pop Spot during New York Comic Con 2025. King, who has penned books like Supergirl, New Gods and Miracle Man, had plenty of thoughts to share on his career. And one piece of information he shared is what makes it so difficult to bring back legacy Wonder Woman villains.
Robinson was responsible for bringing up the idea of Diana Prince’s older enemies.
“Who would be a fun older adversary to bring back for Wonder Woman?” she asked, before continuing: “And I’m fishing for the answer ‘Mouse Man.’”
King was amused by the mention of Mouse Man. However, he also had a more serious answer to the question. “Wonder Woman has a bizarre gallery of villains,” King said. “And some of them are problematic.” Robinson responded, “Some?” King conceded, “Most, I know.”
“It’s harder to steal from her past,” King said. “It’s harder to find a Kite Man in Wonder Woman’s past. But there are some weird ones, so I’ve brought back Mouse Man into it and made him just a horrible, horrible person who has his own country that he’s torturing.”
But even that has a connection to the run’s Big Bad, Matriarch. “All of that was to lead to Matriarch,” King explained. “Because she’s born in Mouse Man’s country under his protection. And Wonder Woman saves the baby that will one day become such a big adversary for her.”
