Magic: The Gathering isn't announcing a Star Wars set, but their head designer has strong ideas of what a Darth Vader card would be
Yes, A Galaxy Far Far Away and a Universe Beyond sound like synonyms, but there's not confirmation that Magic: the Gathering and Star Wars are partnering up (yet, hopefully?)

Magic: The Gathering's lead designer just got to talking about Darth Vader on his official blog, and yes, we're also swimming in visions of Star Wars characters gracing the fonts of our favorite deck-building cards. But what did Yoda say? Something about how speculation leads to fear, fear leads to anger, anger leads to Rise of Skywalker's ending? Something like that.
Point is, we're going to explain what happened, but don't get too excited.
The topic came up on Mark Rosewater's blog. In case you couldn't guess, Rosewater is the lead designer we're talking about, and his personal blog often leads to fun insights from the behind the scenes world of Magic: The Gathering. So when a fan calling themselves retributin wrote in asking, "What colors would Darth Vader be?," we felt a bit of a shift in the force.
"It depends what time period you’re pulling from," Rosewater write back, "He's [sic] most iconic version is pretty black/red."
I mean, I'm no MTG expert, but that answer seems to make a lot of sense to me, and considering its source, might as well be official. But only in the sense of a hypothetical answer between two fans of the same thing. Remember, Wizards of the Coast has been pretty forthcoming about all their plans for their cross-media Universes Beyond decks, and if they were going to announce a Star Wars team-up, it damn well wouldn't be this way.
Still, a fan can dream, can't they? And if you're new to Magic but would get into a Star Wars deck, maybe now wouldn't be the worst time to start learning how to play black/red.
Just in case.
