Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway’s Guns N’ Roses trailer is pure early-internet nostalgia
Sweet Child O' Mine is one of the most recognizable songs in rock history, but we didn't expect to see an anime AMV of it with Mobile Suit Gundam: Hathaway - The Sorcery of Nymph Circe in the year 2026.

I want you all to cast your minds back to the early 2000s, to a time when the Internet was used for fun and the occasional bit of work, rather than plotting the downfall of democracy. Back then, one of the most popular pastimes for anime fans was the simple act of creating AMVs. You might think there is no place for an anime AMV in the year 2026, but you’d be wrong, as the team behind the new Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway film has released a perfect trailer for the new ending theme song – Guns N’ Roses' 'Sweet Child O’ Mine.'
What is an AMV? These deceptively simple videos took a popular song and splashed it over scenes from a beloved anime. There was a whole swarm of them online back when YouTube was young and pure and innocent. Alongside cat memes, this was the height of entertainment back then, but while they aren’t nearly as prominent as they used to be, anime AMVs didn’t actually go away. They just got overshadowed by other forms of entertainment, like reality TV. However, the new trailer for Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway: The Sorcery of Nymph Circe shows that the art is alive and well.
Over the weekend, Bandai Namco Filmworks confirmed that the ending theme song for the latest film in the Mobile Suit Gundam saga is none other than 'Sweet Child ‘O Mine' by Guns N’ Roses. As the film opens in Japanese cinemas, the newest trailer shows off the gorgeous animation that made the first Mobile Suit Gundam: Hathaway film such a delight to see. Paired with the unmistakable guitar riff by Slash and the falsetto vocals of Axel, Sweet Child O’ Mine feels like it is the perfect match for Gundam. Somehow, the marketing team for Mobile Suit Gundam: Hathaway has made something that would have been right at home in the 00s, and I mean that as the biggest possible compliment.
Mobile Suit Gundam: Hathaway - The Sorcery of Nymph Circe is out now in Japan. A US release date hasn't been announced.
