Bryce Dallas Howard wants to do a horror movie that can still have a hopeful ending

What are the odds you’ll see actor/director Bryce Dallas Howard grappling with the gory genre? More than you might think.

During New York Comic Con 2025, Popverse’s Ashley V. Robinson had the opportunity to sit down with actor and director Bryce Dallas Howard in the Pop Spot. Howard will be well known to readers thanks to her work directing several episodes of the Disney+ Star Wars shows, as well as her performances in the Jurassic World franchise and movies like Lady in the Water. But have you ever wondered whether or not she might one day star or direct a slasher movie?

The topic came up when Robinson asked, “What is the over under on you directing and/or starring in a slasher in the future?” Howard quickly responded: “You know, it’s interesting, I was literally in the car ride here talking with my husband about this. I love M. Night Shyamalan movies — that’s not a slasher movie, that’s horror, thriller, supernatural… I love that, that’s definitely a sweet spot. But it needs to be hopeful at the end. I’m a feel-good girlie.”

Robinson quickly followed up by remarking, “So you’re never going to be the person that we’re going to rip the Michael Myers mask off, and it’s been Bryce all along.” This alludes to the William Shatner mask worn by the murderer in John Carpenter’s original 1978 slasher Halloween. Howard responded, “I don’t think so.” And then with a laugh, she added, “If I am, there’s something going on, and check in on me, please.”
