While we wait for the first images of the live-action Gundam film to finally be released, another movie in the iconic franchise has already hit the US box office. Despite getting a limited release over the weekend, Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway: The Sorcery of Nymph Circe managed to bring in over $800,000 in North America, putting it on track to match its immediate predecessor in the series from 2025.

Despite having one of the best trailers we’ve seen in years, Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway: The Sorcery of Nymph Circe opened across the US to relatively little fanfare. Overshadowed by releases like The Devil Wears Prada 2, Mortal Kombat 2, and Michael, the latest entry in the sprawling mecha anime franchise opened in under 900 theaters across North America. With $810,000 at the box office over the weekend, it earned nearly as much as 2025’s Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX – Beginning. However, the big difference between the two films is that GQuuuuuuX was part of an ongoing anime series rollout and was distributed by GKIDS in North America.

The Sorcery of Nymph Circe is a standalone film that is a sequel to 2021’s Mobile Suit Gundam: Hathaway. It is also the first Gundam film to be distributed by Bandai Namco Filmworks in the US. The company usually produces the films but outsources production to other US-based companies to ensure it gets into theaters.

Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway: The Sorcery of Nymph Circe is playing now in theaters across the US – if you’re lucky enough to have a showing near you, of course.
