HBO star Jeremy Strong may be involved in a Succession-style duel with Jesse Eisenberg to star in The Social Network sequel
The Succession actor is reportedly in talks to join the Aaron Sorkin sequel to the 2010 movie about Facebook - but could he be taking over the Mark Zuckerberg role from Jesse Eisenberg?

Just because Jesse Eisenberg played Mark Zuckerberg in the 2010 movie The Social Network doesn’t mean that he’s guaranteed to come back for the sequel, currently in development at Sony with original writer Aaron Sorkin attached to write and direct. After all, even if he doesn’t return, there’s another potential Zuck in the wings — one that has a lot of experience with corporate shenanigans.
The Hollywood Reporter has the news that Succession’s Jeremy Strong is in talks to appear in the second Social Network movie alongside Anora star (and Academy Award winner) Mikey Madison and The Bear’s Jeremy Allen White; while Strong’s potential role is being kept under wraps, THR suggests that he might be in line to inherit the Zuckerberg role after Eisenberg has passed, as one source told the outlet.
That doesn’t mean that either (a) Strong is definitely signed on for the movie — THR only goes as far as to say he’s “circling” the project — or (b) Eisenberg definitely won’t reprise the Mark Zuckerberg portrayal that brought him to audiences’ attention 15 years ago; it’s suggested in the THR piece that his passing on the role may be a negotiation tactic of some sort, and the fact that he’s appeared in all three Now You See Me movies demonstrates that he has nothing against sequels. Of course, the success of his 2024 movie A Real Pain — which he wrote and directed, in addition to starring in — might have changed his perspective on future work, so who knows?
All that we can say for sure right now is that the as-yet-untitled second Social Network movie, based on a series of Wall Street Journal articles called The Facebook Files, is currently in the works with Sorkin writing, directing and producing alongside Todd Black, Peter Rice, and Stuart Besser. Everything else? Well, as the Facebook status of old put it, it’s complicated.
