Bridgerton season 4 ending explained - did Benedict and Sophie make it work, and who's leaving the show for good?

Netflix's hit period romance has finished its latest season, but if you don't have time to check it out, we've got the answers to your burning questions right here

The fourth season of Netflix’s hit romance Bridgerton is now complete, with Part 2 debuted on the streaming service February 26. But did true love win out at the end of the day? Are some beloved cast members leaving the show? For those who don’t have time to watch the show to get the answers, here’s Bridgerton Season 4 Ending Explained.

Do Benedict and Sophie end up together?

Yes, the star-crossed lovers end up together — and married! — by the season’s end. Was there really any doubt? In fact, the two pledge their love to each other as early as episode five, when Benedict confesses his feelings despite Sophie’s position as a maid. Love transcends social classes (in romantic historical fiction, at least).

Is Lady Danbury leaving Bridgerton?

No. Despite what seems to be implied onscreen, “You’ll see Lady Danbery next season,” showrunner Jess Brownell confirmed to Entertainment Weekly. But there is a shift in the power dynamic of the series coming nonetheless: “I think after what they've been through this season, it's safe to say that the Queen is finally going to be treating Danbury more as a peer,” Brownell teased, adding, I think Alice going forward will fulfill more of that service role that Danbury sometimes filled with the Queen [and] Danbury will get to just be a good friend to the Queen going forward.”

Is Julie Andrews leaving Bridgerton?

No — she’s still voicing Lady Whistledown, despite what some fans might think they hear. “We did do a session with Julie Andrews where our producing director, Tom Verica, asked her to change her voice just a little bit to represent the fact that this is a new Whistledown, but it’s still Julie Andrews,” showrunner Jess Brownell told the Hollywood Reporter.

Who is the new Lady Whistledown?

It’s not clear who’s taken up the pen of Lady Whistledown after Penelope surrenders the pseudonym, and that’s intentional — it’s a new twist that isn’t in the original novels. “It felt really fun to have her give it up and then someone else to take it over, because starting from season one, even though we played a little mystery, it was from the book, so everyone was always going to know. They just had to Google,” showrunner Jess Brownell told THR. “But now we’ve created a situation where we have a genuine mystery about who Lady Whistledown is that we can play with for the next few seasons.”

Does anyone die in Bridgerton Season 4?

Yes, there is a tragic death in the fourth season of Bridgerton; Lord John Stirling passes away in his sleep in the sixth episode. "It was an aneurysm," actor Victor Alli told Tudum. The consequences of this death, especially on his widow Francesca, play out throughout the remainder of the season and will likely continue through future episodes.

Is there a Bridgerton Season 4 post-credit scene?

There is a post-credit scene, unusually, in the final episode of the season, as fans who’ve stuck around get the chance to see Benedict and Sophie get married. “Initially, the wedding scene was meant to take place directly after the main action concluded,” showrunner Jess Brownell explained to the Hollywood Reporter, “but Shonda [Rhimes] and I felt like so much happens at the end, fans might need a moment to catch their breath and digest, so we saved the wedding as a little sneaky piece after the credits.”

Will there be a Bridgerton Season 5?

Yes, Bridgerton was renewed for season 5, and even season 6, back in May 2025.

Who are the main characters of Bridgerton Season 5?

The series isn’t ready to answer the question about which couple will step up into the spotlight in the next season, with showrunner Jess Brownell telling THR, “We are just trying to not distract from Benedict and Sophie at the end of the season, really wanting to give them their moment, but we’ll be announcing the leads. We always make an announcement when we start production, and we’re not too far away from starting production. I can’t say exactly when, but people will know soon enough.”

Bridgerton Season 4 is streaming in full on Netflix now.
