Dungeons & Dragons has never been more popular, thanks in part to the cast of Critical Role running compelling and thoughtful campaigns that have captured the imaginations of viewers everywhere. The influence of Critical Role has grown since the first campaign the group ever launched was adapted into an adult animated series called The Legend of Vox Machina. Now in its third season on Amazon Prime Video, The Legend of Vox Machina is proving to be more than a retelling of the events of Critical Role's first campaign.
"There were so many moments during the campaign that we wanted to be able to expand upon, or explore more," Laura Bailey, the voice behind Vex'ahlia explains. "And it's been such a beautiful process to actually get to do that with this series and dive into conversations that didn't get to happen the original time around."
Dungeon Master Matthew Mercer says, "We're all involved in the creative process of the story from pretty much start to finish, as opposed to just receiving scripts and hoping it's a good adaptation. We're in the room with the writers, we are giving notes on the scripts, we're changing things in the booth as we're recording to fit best. To have that sort of creative influence on something because you were the ones that created it together is a surreal and rare opportunity."
