Daredevil: Born Again season 2 ending explained - who dies and what happens next?

What just happened and, more importantly, what's going to happen next after that deadly Daredevil: Born Again season 2 finale? Let Popverse tell you

After a nerve-wracking eight episodes, Daredevil: Born Again season 2 officially wrapped May 5 2026, bringing the story that began with Daredevil: Born Again season 1 to a (not necessarily final) close, and taking a rivalry that began all the way back in April of 2015 to another interregnum period. But how exactly did it all go down? How did the tale of Mayor Wilson Fisk and his fascist Anti-Vigilante Task Force end, and what does it mean for our heroes Matt Murdock, Karen Page, and the rest of the good people of NYC?

Allow us to take you through those answers.

Major spoilers for Daredevil: Born Again season 2 follow.

How does Daredevil: Born Again season 2 end?

The penultimate episode of Daredevil: Born Again season 2 left Karen Page in a situation reminiscent of when we first met her all the way back in Netflix's Daredevil - on trial for a crime she didn't commit. Fortunately, her old pal (and recently re-romanticized partner) Matt Murdock is on the case - although this time, there's only one way to prove Karen's innocence to the whole world:

By revealing himself as the secret identity of Daredevil.

I know, I know, I'll give you a moment to pick your jaws up off the floor. Anyway, Matt's revelation kicks off a chain of events at the courthouse as protests in support of Daredevil build toward a potentially violent confrontation. But blood doesn't actually get drawn until Wilson Fisk, who was at the courthouse for Karen's trial, steps onto the street...

And right into the crosshairs of one Benjamin Poindexter.

Who dies in the Daredevil: Born Again season 2 finale?

Bullseye takes his shot but, as is shockingly common for the man who never misses, doesn't actually hit his target. Instead, Bullseye accidentally kills Fisk's fixer, Buck Cashman, and we can't say that we feel too bad for the guy (he killed Daniel Blake just last episode, remember?). But no matter who the target was, this prompts the roiling protests to boil over, sending the courtroom scene into chaos.

Amidst all the violence, Matt and pals Jessica Jones and Angela del Toro make their way to Fisk, who is at risk of being overwhelmed by all the angry New Yorkers whose lives he affected. In a climactic moment of fate, Murdock & crew offer Fisk his only lifeline out of the situation - a deal with the law to have charges completely dropped... if Fisk leaves NYC forever. Defeated and hopeless, the once mighty Kingpin of New York takes the bargain.

But was that the end? Well, not quite. Even though season 2 did wrap up this particular arc of Wilson's Fisk "rise of the tyrant," there's still a whole lot of trouble waiting for Matt Murdock. He did just reveal his secret identity to the world, after all, and in the closing moments of the season, is arrested and imprisoned.

Where will Daredevil appear next?

Here's where things get fun, comic fans. Let's start by saying that Daredevil: Born Again season 3 has been definitively confirmed by Marvel Studios, and their head of TV Brad Winderbaum has even set sights for a 2027 release date (thanks to Agents of Fandom for that tidbit). But is it possible that the Man without Fear will be showing his attractive face even before the next season?

Maybe.

You see, there's some speculation online right now about the possibility of Matt Murdock showing up in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and not just because Charlie Cox made a cameo as the character in the previous film in that saga, No Way Home. As explained by Total Film, the theorizing comes from the fact that, at one point in the Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer, ol' webhead is clearly in a prison that looks an awful lot like the one we leave Matt in as the credits roll.

So is that a coincidence?

How does Daredevil: Born Again season 2 connect to Spider-Man: Brand New Day?

Truth be told, we can't be sure of Daredevil's involvement in or absence from Spider-Man: Brand New Day until the film drops July 31. However, what we can point to is the fact that Spider-Man most likely won't have to deal with the anti-vigilante ongoings under Wilson Fisk, for two main reasons. Firstly, that as Vincent D'Onofrio himself has pointed out, the rights Sony has to the Kingpin character means he can't be on the big screen as of this writing, and secondly, that thanks to Murdock, Page, and the rest, Fisk is no longer in Spidey's hometown.

That said, we are 100% certain there will be a character crossover between Daredevil: Born Again and Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and it's neither Wilson Fisk or his horny archenemy (take that however you want and it is true). No, the character we know that crosses over is the fella with history in New York and a terrible way of dealing with trauma: Frank Castle, AKA The Punisher.

How does Daredevil: Born Again season 2 connect to Punisher: One Last Kill?

Before we get too deep into the Spider-Man of it all, let's rewind to what we know about Frank Castle from Daredevil: Born Again season 1. Last we saw of him, Castle had just beaten the hell out of some cops that were using his skull logo as a violent symbol of oppression and was escaping the prison cell he was thrown into afterward. Now, we didn't see Punisher show up in Born Again season 2, but we did see a bunch of those same thugs still sporting his symbol, this time under Fisk's Anti-Vigilante Task Force.

So that leaves us to wonder - what will Frank think of all those assholes who used his skull for their own means while he was elsewhere? And while we did see a couple of AVTF members get their just rewards at the hands (and forks!) of Bullseye, there were surely more than a couple that went... unpunished.

Will Bullseye be in Thunderbolts 2?

One last note before we leave you, as brought up by that previous mention of Bullseye. Just like they're talking about Matt Murdock being in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, the internet is all abuzz with rumors of Bullseye appearing in the (not announced, mind you) hypothetical Thunderbolts sequel which, if similar to the first film, would also be about less-than-heroic Marvel Cinematic Universe characters in the service of angels.

And while we have to stress here that Marvel Studios has not announced a follow-up to the 2025 film that ended up secretly being New Avengers after all, we do find it interesting that Bullseye ends Daredevil: Born Again season 2 in the employ of the CIA. The CIA which, the last time we left it, was under the command of Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, creator and erstwhile commander of the Thunderbolts team.
