Fourth Wing gets new showrunner as Locke & Key co-creator joins Amazon's Prime Video adaptation

The Fourth Wing series has been in development since 2023 and we're still waiting to see the best selling novel on our screens.

The romantasy genre has become one of the most consistent things in literature over the past few years, but it has had a rocky road towards getting any live-action adaptations. Amazon’s adaptation of Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros has been in development since 2023, but lost its showrunner back in July 2025. Now, it looks like Fourth Wing has found a new showrunner – the co-creator of Locke & Key.

Meredith Averill, who has been working in television since 2007, has written for hits like Life on Mars, The Good Wife, and Jane the Virgin before co-developing Locke & Key for Netflix. Most recently, she has been an executive producer for Wednesday season two. Now she jumps to Amazon’s Prime Video to take over as showrunner for Fourth Wing. According to reports, she is replacing Moira Walley-Beckett, who left the series in July.

Although it hasn’t had much luck getting adapted for television, Fourth Wing has had no such issues in the literary world. Each of the current books in the series has been a bestseller, with a fourth and fifth book both reportedly in the works with no release date. Yarros confirmed earlier this year that she was going to slow down her pace of writing for her mental health and to spend more time with her children.

No release date for Fourth Wing has been given by Prime Video. While it has been in development since 2023, the project hasn’t yet been ordered to series, and no cast members have been announced. Perhaps with a new showrunner in place, that will change in the coming months.
