Major spoilers for Critical Role Campaign 4, episode 30 follow.
Don't worry, Critters, Mom and Dad aren't fighting.
In case you don't already know, Critical Role Campaign 4, episode 30 ended in the saga's most tragic event yet - that is, the death of Travis Willingham's character Teor Pridesire. The nama paladin met his doom in the cavernous underground of Obrimus Manor, after GM Brennan Lee Mulligan presented him and his fellow players with the option to split up their party. Needless to say, they did, and a couple zombies later, Willingham's lionlike hero was crossing the proverbial veil - but here's the real kicker:
Costar Laura Bailey, who plays Thimble in this TTRPG actual play campaign, was one of the voices speaking up for the party to split up.
Cut to the most recent episode of Critical Role's Fan Q&A talkback series, Fireside Chat, which featured Bailey and Willingham as co-hosts. At one point in the discussion, the The Mighty Nein costars were asked if Bailey had to "sleep on the couch" for "sending Teor to his death."
"First of all," began Willingham, "The impetus wasn’t only to go after the gnomes [Author's note - Willingham is referring to the quest that he followed after the party split]. I was going to go after any of the other options, just to diversify the risk. Here's the thing - never ignore a new game mechanic from the DM. At least, for me. It's like putting a big red button on the map; I'm going to go touch the dangerous thing even if Liam [O'Brien, costar] wants the party to stay safe and healthy. I'm going to fuck it up..
"Either way," the The Legend of Vox Machina voice actor continued, "I rolled like shit and then it all went poorly. So guys, my wife did not talk me into a bad decision. Little did you know, no one can talk me into a bad decision at the table. That bad decision is mine. I made that decision on purpose and I fucking enjoyed it, okay? I loved it! It's the shit that gets me up in the morning; I love this kind of stuff."
"Is my lion person dead?" Willingham concluded, "Yes. Yes he is, and that is very sad. I'm sad I won't be able to see what happens with the group and his story until I come back as a zombie and I eat all your fucking faces."
"Zombie Teor," said Bailey, "That's sexy."
Wow. Mom and Dad are really not fighting.
