Yellowstone spinoff Marshals gets renewed at CBS after just two episodes - because the first episode was that big

The first episode shows that the public still isn't done with Yellowstone as Marshals is a streaming hit.

We don’t think anyone expected Marshals, the most recent Yellowstone spinoff to grace our screens, to be a flop, but not even CBS and Paramount could have anticipated the success it has already had. After just two episodes, the network has already renewed the series for another season based solely on the remarkable ratings Marshals pulled, both on the streaming and broadcast sides.

How big was that first episode of Marshals? More than 20 million people tuned in to watch it in the week following its debut on CBS on March 1, 2026. That is more than 6 million viewers higher than the next closest competition of any series that aired that week. Remarkably, more than 11 million people watched Marshals after its initial showing on CBS, with the bulk of those viewers streaming it on Paramount+.

That isn’t terribly surprising, considering that the bulk of Yellowstone fans fell in love with the franchise through streaming. Marshals is the first of the many Yellowstone spinoffs to make its debut on broadcast television rather than streaming on Paramount+, and it is clear that streaming is still where the majority of fans are finding the series.

However, CBS seems to have liked what they’ve seen from the ratings, even if the network isn’t the greatest beneficiary of Marshals’ popularity. They’ve already ordered another season of the latest Yellowstone series before the third episode has even aired, and with only the viewing figures for the first episode publicly available. Yellowstone might still have most of its audience thanks to streaming, but Marshals shows that the series has a future in broadcast television as well.
