Okay, I don't know if I would consider Captain Kirk to be a particularly good Starfleet captain - but he certainly is an entertaining one. I say this completely without malice, but I would never want to be on the Enterprise crew with Kirk at the helm - especially if my shirt is red. Jimmy Kirk ain't no Benjamin Sisko (why did that rhyme?).
It's because of William Shatner and Paul Wesley's performances in Star Trek: The Original Series (and subsequent moviefilms) and Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, respectively, that have made Kirk such an endearing and enduring figure within Starfleet. And with any luck, we'll be getting more of Paul Wesley's Kirk in a sequel series to Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.
According to TrekMovie, the Strange New Worlds sequel show is being referred to as "Star Trek: Year One." It has been pitched to Paramount by Strange New Worlds executive producers Akiva Goldsman and Henry Alonso Myers, the latter of whom told the outlet, "We’ve done a lot to give to [Paramount]. It’s in their hands right now. They’re taking a look at it, trying to decide it. I mean, there’s a lot of love for our show over there, and obviously a lot of love for Star Trek."
Look, the final season of Strange New Worlds is putting together the remaining members of the Original Series Enterprise crew with Thomas Jane as Dr. Leonard McCoy, or "Bones" if you're his friend, as well as Kai Murakami as Hikaru Sulu. The gang's nearly all here. Paul Wesley is so damn charismatic as Kirk. Come on, Paramount, don't let me down. I could watch at least six seasons of Wesley's Kirk and Ethan Peck's Spock bantering.
Space may be the final frontier, but there's no end to Popverse's love of the Star Trek universe. Hop aboard the starship Enterprise with our Star Trek watch order, explore strange new worlds with our upcoming Star Trek TV shows and movies list, seek out the new life of the franchise, and boldly go where no Star Trek film has ever gone before - with Quentin Tarantino?
