As of this writing, it is still unclear exactly when Critical Role and Prime Video's The Legend of Vox Machina, season 4 will be available to stream, although we do know it will be some time in 2026. We know that that kind of uncertainty can be daunting for all you Critters out there (as it is for us here at Popverse), which is why we're thrilled to announce an official, Amazon-produced return to the world of Exandria, as Dark Horse Comics continues its Critical Role graphic novel prequel trilogy with The Legend of Vox Machina: The Whitestone Chronicles Volume 2—Cassandra.
And we know exactly when you can expect to be reading it.
Let's back up a moment. In case you don't know, Dark Horse has been publishing comic book tales of the Critical Role universe for a while now and, in November of 2024, they teamed up with Amazon MGM to publish not just a Critical Role story, but an official prequel to the Vox Machina animated series: The Legend of Vox Machina: The Whitestone Chronicles—Ripley. As the name implies, the original graphic novel (by writer Marieke Nijkamp and artist Tyler Walpole), focused on the character of Dr. Anna Ripley and her involvement in the bloody usurpation of the city of Whitestone, a key event that shaped the tale of Vox Machina.

Now, Dark Horse and Critical Role are getting even deeper into the bloody details by centering the next Whitestone story around Cassandra de Rolo. If that name sounds familiar, it should: Cassandra is the younger sister of VM's bespectacled gunslinger Percival de Rolo, and the only other survivor of her family's massacre at the hands of the wicked Sylas and Delilah Briarwood. Although if this graphic novel has anything to say about it, there may be more to the Briarwood story than than we thought - ah, what the hell, just check out Dark Horse's official synopsis here:
"Critically injured and seemingly abandoned by her brother after the murder of her family, Cassandra de Rolo finds herself at the mercy of Whitestone’s usurpers. Much to her shock, Delilah and Sylas Briarwood treat her with the utmost care—almost like a daughter—as she recovers within the relative safety of her own childhood bedroom. On edge and suspicious of their motives, Cassandra adapts to survive while processing the trauma of her family’s demise and Percy’s abandonment.
The Briarwoods delight in parading Cassandra around the city in an attempt to convince the despairing populace of their benevolence. Instead of becoming their paragon of obedience, Cassandra unwittingly becomes the guiding light of the rebellion attempting to rescue Whitestone, particularly in the eyes of her childhood friend and rebel leader, Archie. Cassandra vows to do whatever she can to help her beloved home, but are the ghosts of her past powerful enough to overcome the ghosts in her present, or will the Briarwoods’ brainwashing drown out all reason?"
The Legend of Vox Machina: The Whitestone Chronicles Volume 2—Cassandra sees writer Marieke Nijkamp captain yet another Critical Role storyline (before Ripley, Nijkamp also wrote the Vax & Vex novel Kith & Kin), and G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero's Travis Hymel take over on art duties. Colors come from Vox Machina comics vet Diana Sousa and letters from Comicraft. Weighing in at 80 full-color pages, the whole thing goes on sale on March 10, 2026, and you can get a good look at the full cover below:

The Legend of Vox Machina: The Whitestone Chronicles Volume 2—Cassandra will be available in bookstores and comic shops March 10, 2026.
