Marvel transforms the Hulk into even more of a monster by removing Bruce Banner from the equation in new Infernal comic book series

Fans who have thought that the Hulk was a monster haven’t seen anything yet — and this November, Marvel is going to change everything for the character as the ongoing Incredible Hulk comic book series gets relaunched as The Infernal Hulk… and for once, Bruce Banner isn’t the title character.
That doesn’t mean that the Hulk in the new series is a brand new character — just the opposite, in fact: it’s the Hulk possessed by the Eldest, the firstborn of the ancient horror the Mother of Horrors, who’s been plaguing the Hulk since 2023’s The Incredible Hulk #1. In the upcoming final issues of that run, the Eldest will somehow tear Hulk and Banner apart, leaving the former vulnerable to a new host… and Banner left behind to stand against the next stage of a plan to transform the Earth into a world of monsters.
“I’ve been promising Hulk fans the biggest, boldest status quo change in Hulk’s history, and that time is finally here,” writer Phillip Kennedy Johnson said in a statement about the new series. “The next few issues of Incredible Hulk give fans all the answers they’ve been waiting for about Eldest and the Mother of Horrors, and Infernal Hulk is the beginning of a terrifying new normal, not just for the Hulk series but for the entire Marvel Universe.”
He continued, “There are monsters way worse and more powerful than anything we’ve seen so far, bigger and stronger than Hulk with origins that go back to the foundations of the Earth. It’s time to take this story to the next level, and no corner of the Marvel Universe will be left untouched before the end.”
How big will the new series get? Marvel is describing the new series as heralding “a dark destiny for the entire Marvel Universe and declaring war for its very soul.” So… you know. Pretty big.
Infernal Hulk artist Nic Klein, who’s been working with Johnson on this particular Hulk story since the start in 2023, added, "Working on Hulk whether it be ‘Incredible’ and now ‘Infernal’ with Phillip has been a dream. Phillip is not only an amazing world builder and craftsman who pours so much heart into this book, but he has also become a great friend and fantastic collaborator throughout this. Infernal Hulk is where the journey was always going to go all along, and I’m excited to see reader’s reactions to it. I know I’m putting a lot of blood, sweat, and tears into it, as always."
The Infernal Hulk will launch November 26.
