Marvel still hasn’t revealed the projects that brought Brian Michael Bendis back... but they are "special projects" and none are ongoing comics

Back at Marvel, Brian Michael Bendis has some "exciting" projects (plural) there but says no ongoing series.

Brian Michael Bendis has done more for Marvel Comics than arguably any other comics writer in the past 25 years. And now, after 8 years away, he's back. But the projects that brought him back to Marvel haven't even been announced yet. While Bendis isn't ready to announce them yet, he does say they will be "special projects," and none will be ongoing series.

"... at the moment, I am specifically doing special projects. No ongoing series. but a few projects to be sure," Bendis says in response to a fan question during a recent League of Comic Geeks AMA. "I have certainly done enough ongoing long series of Marvel. Whatever itch I was trying to scratch I do believe I scratched it. But I do love writing these characters and I do love the momentum of the medium and I am very excited to be working on the projects I'm working on."

Bendis' return at Marvel Comics began with a story in the Avengers #34 anthology (with Ultimate Spider-Man co-creator Mark Bagley) earlier this year, and a story in the upcoming Amazing Spider-Man #1000 anthology (with Bendis' frequent artist partner, Stuart Immonen). Bendis says that despite these coming first, these aren't the projects that led him to return after an eight-year break.

"The projects that brought me back to Marvel have not been announced yet," Bendis reveals. "These are just awesome special anniversary treats that happened while we were talking."

Elsewhere, Bendis was asked if he would consider doing new stories with his co-creation Jessica Jones or Miles Morales, and the writer said "hell yes" with the caveat being "if I had something completely different or new to explore with them."

He did say, however, "I do love Daredevil and I do love the streets of Marvel," Bendis says. "I Will be revisiting them soon in some form."

Bendis says that the plan as of earlier this year was for some of these marquee Marvel projects to begin coming out by the end of 2026.

Bendis left Marvel Comics in 2018 after signing a multi-year deal with DC Comics that included a caveat that he wouldn't write for Marvel, and a deeper concentration on his creator-owned comics.
