Imagine the Spider-Verse but for all of the Marvel U, and that's what is happening in DC's Kingdom Come creator Alex Ross' new comic Marvel Dimensions

DC Comics' Kingdom Come imagined a world where Batman, Wonder Woman, Superman, and more grew up and grew old, and were all the better for it, becoming almost folk heroes in a post-modern superhero way. Now, the creator and painter behind that series, Alex Ross, is aiming to take on Marvel's heroes and pushing them to new places... but not to old age, but from their origins to multiversal variants.
Mirroring the uptick in multiversal stories popping up in superhero fiction thanks to the likes of Avengers: Endgame and the Spider-Verse films, Ross just finished painting (and drawing!) a 112-page graphic novel coming this fall titled Marvel Dimensions that will do that for all of the Marvel U.
First announced by Borys Kit at The Hollywood Reporter, Marvel Dimensions begins with a retelling of origins of major Marvel heroes such as Spider-Man, Wolverine, Iron Man, and the Hulk, then bounds into something (they're keeping what that something is under wraps) that forces a jump into new dimension - including going from a graphic novel to a comic book, and then back to a graphic novel again.
"It’s meant to be as bonkers a ride for the reader as it could possibly be."
"You’re getting one kind of entertainment, and then it changes on you midstream and then you’re getting a different art style suddenly, and then you’re wondering, ‘Where’s this going?’ And then the format changes within the book itself, a mid-book format change, " says Ross. "All these things hopefully seem to unify and combine and come back together, but it’s meant to be a wild ride that is throwing everything plus the kitchen sink at you."

Much of the 112-page OGN Marvel Dimensions is painted in a style Ross has become known for, but midway through it switches to be more traditional comic book art - less painted, more illustrated - to signal a shift of some kind.
According to THR, Ross finished the art of Marvel Dimensions last week - with publisher Abrams ComicsArts (working in association with Marvel) then announcing the book was on its way. According to the artist/writer, a big picture take on Marvel is something he had been wanting to do for years but was at a loss of how to do it without it feeling too close to his previous work..
"I would think like, ‘Oh, that’s just gonna be repetitive. You’ve done that kind of thing before. Why would it be new?’" says Ross. "And this is my way of coming up with a very twisted new way of approaching this."
And its not just the art style that is new, but Ross is has also created "about 200 new characters" which will debut in the book according to THR, but the Hollywood trade is careful to say some could be variants of pre-existing characters, such as an alternate dimension version of a Marvel character.
Marvel Dimensions is scheduled for release September 1.
