DC's Poison Ivy has been admittedly all over the place the last few decades, but G. Willow Wilson is intent on pulling all those threads to create one cohesive character

Everyone has their own reference point for the iconic DC character Poison Ivy, and it's been G. Willow Wilson's job to build a cohesive version of the character

Every Batman fan, or even casual fan, has their own reference point for Poison Ivy. Ever since she debuted in 1966 in DC Comics, Dr. Pamela Isley has taken on different forms across comics, movies, TV, and video games like any diva would. Whether she's wearing her original leaf leotard and tights or suited up as Gotham City's mayor, one thing has remained clear: the people love Poison Ivy.

In an interview with DC's website, the writer of Poison Ivy's ongoing series, G. Willow Wilson, extrapolated on the process of synthesizing so many different versions of the character into one definitive vision.

"What we've tried to do in this run of Poison Ivy is really bring together all of the separate story threads about her that have accumulated over the decades. She's really one of those characters that has changed a lot decade to decade. Her backstory, her power set, her costume, even her personality changes depending on who's writing Batman and what Gotham City is like. What we've tried to do is tie all of those threads together into a story that feels very cohesive, very compelling. You really get to ride around in Ivy's mind and see the world through her eyes. That's something that we haven't been able to do as readers, in a long form anyway, in the history of this character," Wilson said.

Wilson added, "She has staying power because of her charisma. In this series, we just try to do justice to that—do a deep dive into her motives and her passions. It makes for a very dark, propulsive, sexy story." There's something for every fan of Poison Ivy in the series.

Originally announced as a 12-issue limited series in 2022, G. Willow Wilson's Poison Ivy was promoted to an ongoing series three years ago due to strong sales and fan enthusiasm. Now, the title is approaching its 50th issue, which is no small feat in today's world of American comics. The Poison Ivy title has an upcoming crossover with the mainline Batman title from Matt Fraction and Jorge Jiménez kicking off this summer.
