The Ultimate Black Panther story Bryan Hill never got to tell was a horror story (no, not a Marvel Midnight book, but now that you mention it...)

The Ultimate Black Panther story that never happened would have been horror.

As the fact that Marvel's popular Ultimate Marvel era is at an end and fans wrestle with the opposing ideas that 'endings are good' and there could've been more stories left to tell, Ultimate Black Panther writer Bryan Edward Hill has mentioned something in passing that has me wanting something now that I didn't know I needed.

A scary Black Panther comic.

"With BP, I wanted to do a really scary arc, but I didn't have enough runway," Hill said in response to a fan question in an AMA on League of Comic Geeks. In another question, he said, "I didn't get the chance to do that. That could have been fun."

Although he couldn't fit it in, Hill says his Ultimate Black Panther run being a 24-issue limited series was backed into the original understanding he had with Marvel before he began writing, and that it "helped me with structure."

That being said, Hill would be up to doing a main Marvel Universe Black Panther ongoing series if the opportunity presented itself. For that, however, "scary" isn't the word that came to mind, but explosions.

"More explosions and fights in that one, I think."

The end of the Ultimate Marvel line happening just as the hype for the Marvel Midnight line of horror-tinged books this fall builds could also offer a potential landing place for such a "scary" Black Panther idea.

Until then, Hill's Ultimate Black Panther #1 - #24 is available now, and most of it has been collected in various formats.
