Cyclops and Wade Wilson: Deadpool get a new spotlight as Marvel relaunches the X-Men comic book line in 2026

January sees the 'Shadows of Tomorrow' impact the X-Men, with Marvel announcing two new comics joining some familiar favorites ahead of a New York Comic Con panel

After taking the X-Men franchise a decade into the future for the Age of Revelation event running October through December, Marvel Comics has revealed that things won’t be returning to normal in the immediate aftermath, instead announcing the return of three comic book series — and the launch of two new ones — as part of what’s being called the ‘Shadows of Tomorrow.’

Officially, fans will have to wait until Marvel’s X-Men panel at New York Comic Con 2025 — that’s taking place October 10 at the Javits Center, and of course Popverse will be there to tell you everything that’s happening as it’s happening — for more information. For now, Marvel has simply released teaser images for the following titles, with the following taglines:

  • The Uncanny X-Men #22: In the Shadows of Tomorrow… not every mutant is family.
  • X-Men #23: In the Shadows of Tomorrow… the future is no longer spoken for.
  • Wolverine #14: In the Shadows of Tomorrow… old friends become new enemies.
  • Cyclops #1: In the Shadows of Tomorrow… follow the leader
  • Wade Wilson: Deadpool #1: In the Shadows of Tomorrow… find someone else to laugh at.

Both Cyclops and Wade Wilson: Deadpool are new series seemingly spinning out of the aftermath of the Age of Revelation event. Creative teams for any book have not been announced, although it’s not unreasonable to assume that Jed Mackay, Gail Simone, and Saladin Ahmed will continue as writers for X-Men, Uncanny X-Men, and Wolverine, respectively.

It’s also not unreasonable to assume that more teasers for the Shadows of Tomorrow relaunch of the X-Men line are to come; not only is NYCC 2025 still weeks away, but there are multiple X-Men comics unaccounted for in the above line-up, including the third ‘core’ X-Men book, Exceptional X-Men. As things stand going into the Age of Revelation event, the X-Men comic book line consists of more than 10 series intended as ongoing series; the idea that it would return cut in half feels unlikely, at best.

(We should point out - don't look at the header image as a clue for the visual identity of the new X-Men line; it's from the X-Men: Age of Revelation Finale #1 cover by Andrei Bressan.)

Keep your eyes on Popverse for more as it’s announced.
