Days Gone Remastered release date: Set back off into a post-apocalyptic Pacific Northwest once again this April

The original game felt too close to The Last of Us, so Sony hopes a graphical upgrade and a bit of space will allow players to fall in love with Days Gone all over again.

When it was first released in 2019, Days Gone divided critics. However, Sony is giving us all a second chance to fall in love with Deacon as he makes his way across a post-apocalyptic Oregan. Days Gone Remastered is on its way in 2025, bringing the game to modern consoles and (hopefully) giving the developers a chance to rewrite the game’s legacy.

Critics pointed to the game’s simple plot and repetitive mission design back in 2019, though they did appreciate Sam Witwer’s performance as protagonist Deacon. Days Gone Remastered is unlikely to change people’s minds on the plot or mission design issues, but it should fix some of the technical bugs that held the original release back. We won’t know until Days Gone Remastered is released on April 25, 2025.

Perhaps the biggest issue that Days Gone faced was the fact that it was too similar to The Last of Us. It stars a jaded loner who traverses a post-apocalyptic landscape to potentially find a cure for the cannibalistic infected that has destroyed most of humanity. While Ellie and Joel’s relationship became the redeeming feature of Naughty Dog’s game, Days Gone lacked that emotional core to help players overlook the game’s flaws. When Days Gone was released in 2019, fans were already looking forward to The Last of Us Part II in 2020, which took the wind out of their marketing sales.

Sony is hoping that a bit of distance from similar games, along with improved graphics and less loading times, will help players appreciate the game more. Days Gone Remastered will be out on the PlayStation 5 console on April 25, 2025.
